Lillian Bassman was an American fashion photographer and painter. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on June 15 , 1917.

She worked as a fashion photographer for Junior Bazaar, and later Harper's Bazaar. She began to photograph her model subjects in black and white. By the 1970 her type of photography was out of style so she abandoned fashion photography. 20 years later a bag filled with her photographs was discovered, and they  became popular and appreciated once again. Into her 90's she used digital technology to photo shop her photographs to create a new series of work. Lillian Bassman died on February 13,
2012 (age 94) in Manhattan, New York.
I like her photographs because they don't look like photographs. They actually look like paintings. I also like that they are black and white. My favorite is the first one to the left because it looks like a painting.
